The Illustrated Definitions series is a selection of abstract paintings that attempt to illustrate the dictionary definition of various words by painting simple lines in a style that represents that word. Each work includes the relevant definition with a pertinent example highlighted.
Occasionally people think that the lines themselves form some kind of related image, but I suspect that this is purely a reaction to sub-conscious connections that the viewer has with the word.
This is (A) Cipher from the “Are You Sure We’re Doing This Right?” series. Hand-painted in ink on Bristol paper, 23 x 29 inches (paper size).
